Promontory Pointe Homeowners Association hosts “Cultivating Communities”
Homeowner Announcement
The Promontory Pointe Homeowners Association is pleased to announce a partnership with the Bexar County Master Gardeners. These volunteers are members of our local community who have received specialized horticulture training through the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County. They provide unbiased, research‑based, and locally relevant gardening information to residents through a variety of programs. This partnership is designed to help homeowners with landscape, lawn, and garden questions and to provide guidance on maintaining healthy, sustainable green spaces during current and future drought conditions.
Phase I: Landscape Clinic
Saturday, October 24, 2026 • 10:00 AM – Noon • Pool Pavilion Meet with gardening experts to discuss lawn care, vegetable gardening, trees, and other landscape concerns. Master Gardeners will answer questions or help locate the right information. The first 50 homeowners will receive a complimentary plant. Stay for a few minutes or the full session.
Phase II: Gardening Workshop
Saturday, November 14, 2026 • 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM • Parman Library Classrooms This workshop provides detailed guidance on creating a resilient landscape suited to our region’s unique growing conditions. Learn proven techniques for basic lawn and landscape care. Homeowners may sign up for a free personal landscape review conducted by Bexar County Master Gardeners, as well as a free irrigation system check provided by San Antonio Water System.
Phase III: Landscape Reviews
Scheduled individually following the Gardening Workshop Two Master Gardeners will visit participating homes for a one‑hour consultation. They will offer tailored recommendations for lawn maintenance, plant selection, and solutions to landscape challenges.
Gardening in Bexar County presents unique challenges due to our soil conditions and intense heat. We encourage all homeowners to take advantage of these valuable events and receive expert guidance to strengthen and improve their home landscapes.

How to attract and care for Hummingbirds: Hummingbirds
Let’s bring pollinators back to our HOA!
For maximum monarch + hummingbird traffic:
- Plant Gregg’s Mistflower in clusters of 3–5 for butterfly density. (Plant in Sun-Will grow 4-5 feet wide and 3 feet tall). The provides butterfly nectar.
- Plant Green Milkweed next to your Gregg’s Mistflower. This is the host plant for Monarch’s and provide food for their long journies.
- Add Turk’s Cap for shade areas and nonstop hummingbird activity. (Plant in partial sun areas and will grow to 5-6′ high and 4-5 feet wide)
- Use Flame Acanthus in hot, dry spots — peak bloom aligns with fall monarch migration. (Plant in full sun and it will grow from 4-5′ tall and 3-4 feet wide)
- Mix in Esperanza for long-season nectar and bright color. (Plant in full sun and this bush will grow up to 7-8 feet tall and just about as wide).
Bloom coverage across seasons:
- Spring: Gregg’s Mistflower, Milkweed
- Summer: Salvia, Turk’s Cap, Esperanza, Gregg’s Mistflower, Milkweed
- Fall (migration peak): Flame Acanthus, Gregg’s Mistflower, Turk’s Cap, Esperanza, Milkweed
Water needs: All five are drought-tough once established — ideal for Central Texas heat.
